Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially released the list of holidays for its offices for the calendar year 2026. The circular, issued by the BSNL Corporate Office on October 3, 2025, details the compulsory and restricted holidays for employees across India.

Holiday Structure for BSNL Offices
The holiday schedule is determined in accordance with the circular from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions. For BSNL offices in Delhi and New Delhi, a specific list of holidays will be observed as per Annexure-I of the government order. For offices located outside of Delhi, the structure is slightly different, involving a mix of compulsory and variable holidays.
Compulsory Holidays for BSNL Offices (Outside Delhi/New Delhi)
All BSNL administrative offices located outside of Delhi and New Delhi will compulsorily observe the following 14 holidays in 2026:

Optional Holidays for BSNL Offices (Outside Delhi/New Delhi)
In addition to the 14 compulsory holidays, Circle Heads are to select three more holidays from the list below. This selection will be made in consultation with the Circle Staff Welfare Board and representative unions. The final list will be applicable uniformly to all BSNL offices within that state’s jurisdiction.

For BSNL offices located in Delhi and New Delhi, the holidays are fixed as per Annexure-I of the government memorandum. The holidays for 2026 are as follows:

Restricted Holidays (RH)
Each employee is permitted to avail themselves of any two holidays from the Restricted Holidays list.
- For Delhi/New Delhi Offices: A specific list of Restricted Holidays is provided in Annexure-II of the O.M.
- For Offices Outside Delhi: The Heads of Territorial Circles can create a separate list of Restricted Holidays based on occasions of local importance. This list must also include the nine occasions left over from the optional holiday list after the three variable holidays have been selected.
Important Rules and Provisions
- Diwali 2026: Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026. In states where it is customary to celebrate on “Naraka Chaturdasi Day” (the day before), BSNL offices may observe the holiday on that day if it is declared a compulsory holiday by the respective state government.
- Moon-Sighting Holidays: The dates for holidays such as Idul Fitr, Idu’l Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad are subject to change based on the sighting of the moon. Announcements regarding any changes may be made through TV, AIR, or newspapers, and offices are to act on such announcements without waiting for a formal order.
- No Substitute Holiday: If a declared festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day, no substitute holiday will be allowed.
